Stantum lands $13M for multi-touch touchscreens

French touchscreen maker Stantum Technologies announced that it just brought in $13 million in a second round of funding to expand its sales operations in the U.S., Europe and Asia and advance research on next-generation multi-touch products. Formerly called JazzMutant, Stantum says it was the first to produce a screen that could sense an unlimited number of touchpoints. It brings in revenue by licensing its screen technology to third-party product developers.

Just last month, Stantum struck a deal with handwriting recognition company Vision Objects and presented a joint mobile phone handwriting solution at the Mobile World Congress. Cell phones are the leading application for touchscreen products.

The recent round of investment came from CDC Innovation, Auriga Partners and XAnge Private Equity. It raised an undisclosed first round in 2007.
