Mobile email/sync company Synchronica acquires AxisMobile, raises $10M

Synchronica, a company that provides mobile email and synchronization, has acquired another mobile email company, AxisMobile, for $4.9 million in Synchronica shares. The company has also raised an additional $10 million in funding from new and existing institutional investors.

Royal Tunbridge Wells, U.K.-based Synchronica says the acquisition adds “email to SMS” and “email to MMS” functionality to its Mobile Gateway software, while the new funding will allow it to grow in emerging markets like China, Africa, the Middle East, Eastern Europe and Latin America. The Mobile Gateway software provides push email, as well as calendar and contact synchronization.
