Nuventix raises $14M for LED and electronics cooling technology

Austin, Texas-based Nuventix, which makes low cost, energy-efficient cooling technology for LEDs and consumer electronics, has received $14 million in third round funding led by Advanced Technology Ventures. Braemar Energy Ventures also joined the round.

The firm will use the proceeds to expand its range of LED cooling devices and to move into new markets. Its Synjet module uses pulses of air for rapid, precise spot cooling and thermal management. Nuventix says its high thermal efficiency makes it possible to cool with less air.

Its targeted application makes it a more effective, reliable cooling option than most conventional fan technologies. It has few moving parts, is quiet and uses less power. Moreover, its small form-factor makes it an ideal cooling solution for finicky consumer electronics, medical, telecom and automotive devices.

Nuventix capped a $10 million second round of funding last year led by Rho Ventures. Centerpoint Ventures and InterWest Partners also contributed to the round. The three also helped the firm close its $6.5 million first round in 2005.
