CoMentis raises $20 million for Alzheimer’s drugs

CoMentis has raised $20 million in a fourth round of funding to create drugs to fight Alzheimer’s disease, age-related macular degeneration (a leading cause of blindness in the elderly), and cognitive brain disorders.

The South San Francisco company has two technology platforms: aspartic protease inhibitors, including beta-secretase inhibitors for Alzheimer’s disease; and nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) agonists and antagonists for the treatment of angiogenesis mediated diseases and cognitive disorders.

CoMentis currently has three drugs in the works for Alzheimer’s treatment. Investors in the round include: Scott Harkonen, John Donovan, Muralitharan Kengatharan, A. Barr Dolan, Dennis Henner, Robert McNeil, John Higgins, Sanderling Venture Partners VI, Clarus Lifesciences I, Astellus Pharma, John P. Cooke, Robin J. Cook, Index Ventures III, and Jersey St. Helier.
