I’d kinda be worried about third-party integration opening up security holes. What exactly is their business model again, and how does it involve their use of this info they mine from my inbox?

Users of Lotus Notes have been having full text search in the mail for at least the last 15 years, if not more. Many of the other functions mentioned is also available in the latest version of Notes, including threaded views and “live words” where names, email and phone numbers in mail are made into live links.
Interesting that Outlook need a 3rd party tool for this kind of basic functionality. Of course, we are talking about a mail system where the .PST files get corrupted if they get too big (1.6 GB is recommeded maximum size), while I seen mail files in Notes at 6-7 GB or more…

“VSTO /the Office PIAs/Outlook COM APIs” – I think you’ve just answered your own question there Sriram! 3 APIs, too many incompatibilities with versions of Outlook, COM APIs are a pain to use from .NET etc. Not exactly “friendly”!

Could you elaborate on your comment about Outlook’s APIs? People have been building plugins with VSTO /the Office PIAs/Outlook COM APIs for a long, long time.
