Multimedia presentation software Freepath raises $1.5 million

Freepath plans to offer a set of basic editing tasks easier, through a desktop application. Although the company is still in private beta (I’m waiting for an invite), I can see how the Freepath could be useful.

It’s designed to help you put together multimedia presentations, and it includes a couple nice little features. For example, you can set a video clip to play from within a specific point of the video, within your Freepoint presentation .

You can edit PowerPoint files, PDFs, photos, videos, music files, live web sites, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets and more (PC World has more). You can also check out the video tour here.

The Folsom, California company’s chief executive is John Stone, who previously cofounded education software company PowerSchool. Apple bought PowerSchool in 2001 then sold it to educational software provider Pearson in 2006.

Velocity Venture Capital led the round, with participation from individuals at Strategis Early Ventures, Sacramento Angles and Sierra Angels. Velocity Venture Capital focuses exclusively on Sacramento-area investments and is not to be confused with Velocity Investment Group.

About the Author, Eric Eldon

Eric currently covers digital media technology and business news, especially what's happening on social networks and their platforms. He also writes and edits stories about venture capital, and lots of other stuff, too. He started at VentureBeat in the spring of 2007, half a year or so after Matt Marshall left his reporting job at the San Jose Mercury News to found the site. Eric previously cofounded a startup called Writewith, that was building editorial software for newspapers and other groups of writers. The startup didn't work out, but he learned a lot.
