The industry has just started blossoming after last 10 years of sincere efforts. Many biotech companies having crossed the initial start-up hurdles are now on the growth stage. Successfully adopted model is similar like IT cross-border leverage(US front end and back end India operations) specifically in the knowledge driven areas like biotech services outsourcing companies for Pharmaceutical industries. Hence, MPM decision to invest in India is right timing but the model should be by partnering with a dedicated Indian lifesciences fund like Ventureast Biotech Fund would be more appropriate. The combination of Indian domain fund expertise (like Ventureast) and MPM US synergies can accelerate the investments much faster. The above is only my personal suggestion because I have a great regard for MPM in VC industry.
