Gigle Semiconductor gets $20M more for yet another broadband network chip

Gigle Semiconductor, a Redwood City, Calif., company that makes chips for home networking devices, said it has received $20 million in a second round of funding.

Gigle also has offices in Spain and the U.K.. It backers are Glasgow-based Scottish Equity Partners, and existing investors Accel Partners and Pond Venture Partners, which together previously invested $11 million.
Gigle allows broadband networking connections through home, through existing lines such as telephone or cable, or even electric.

The company’s name may be Gigle, but it’s no laughing matter. There’s a gaggle of competitors. VentureWire (subscription required) published a good list: Arkados Group, Conexant Systems, Intellon, Maxim Integrated Products, Spidcom Technologies, Xeline and SiConnect. Gigle says it delivers at faster speeds, at 1 gigabit per second, but ‘not clear how much faster it is compared to its competitors in live conditions.
