DOE kicks off “Entrepreneur in Residence” program for alternative energy projects
The Department of Energy said it has started an “Entrepreneur in Residence” to help commercialize alternative energy research projects at the DOE.
DOE Assistant Secretary Alexander Karsner announced the program this week during a visit to Silicon Valley. He was scheduled to talk about the program during a visit to the Stanford business school. Karsner oversees the DOE’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. The EIR program will invite three entrepreneurs to the DOE’s labs to help bring its technology to market, seeks to work with venture capitalists to help fund the projects. The DOE will provide $300,000 in seed funding.
Three labs included in the project are Golden, Colo.-based National Renewable Energy Lab, Sandia National Laboratory and Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
