Mobivox raises $11M for yet another VoIP service

IDG Ventures Boston has led an $11 million first round of investment into Montreal, Canada company Mobivox, just the latest Internet telephone company that lets members make cheap or free phone calls around the world.

It  lets members make calls to a number of countries free and other countries at around 2 cents, similar to services like Skype and Jajah.

You go to the company’s Web site, and it gives you a local access number. A voice asks you who you want to to call, and then it puts you through. Like Jajah, it hopes to do an end-run around more popular services like Skype by working on mobile phones.

IDG was joined by IDG Ventures China and IDG Ventures Vietnam. Previous investors include Brightspark Ventures of Toronto and Skypoint Capital Corp. of Ottawa.
