ReachLocal snags $55.2 million for local search engine marketing

ReachLocal, which helps small and medium sized businesses manage local search marketing, has raised a massive $55.2 million.

The company helps these businesses with many aspects of their online presences, from selecting keywords for search advertising to building landing pages and creating and analyzing the results of the campaigns.  It has a number of competitors, but its biggest one remains the stalwart Yellowpages.

ReachLocal has been expanding rapidly, opening 11 sales offices in the last year and has no plans of slowing down.

The funding comes from Rho Ventures and returning investor VantagePoint Venture Partners.

The Local Onliner has more.

About the Author, Dan Kaplan

Once upon a time, Dan considered himself a magazine journalist with dreams of "The New Yorker" and a couple of well-reviewed but only mildly successful books. Then one day, life, as it is known to do, decided it was time for rebirth. Like so many things before it, this rebirth was conceived on a mostly-empty plane to Reno. Now, instead of magazine writing, Dan would plunge into the world of New Media and write for Matt Marshall's blog.

It's funny how it goes.
