Mobile games hot: Greystripe, Cellcast show traction
Greystripe, the San Francisco start-up that “wraps” ads around games distributed in mobile phone, says users have downloaded 14 million mobile games with its technology.
That’s in less than a year, and suggests significant traction. The announcement follows the purchase of a competing company, Actionality, by Yahoo.
And this morning, we learn that Cellcast Asia, a spin-out of London-based Cellcast has just raised $5.25 million from Canaan Partners to distribute mobile game offerings in Asia and South-East Asia.
Greystripe distributes the games through its site GameJump and other distribution partners, offering some 800 games from 70 publishers. The ad technology allows the games to be distributed for free. The company says the early morning commute and lunch breaks are the most popular time for game playing among it users. We’ve covered Greystripe before, including here.
