Aerohive Networks raises $20M for controller-less wireless LAN
Aerohive Networks, a Santa Clara, Calif. company that offers a controller-less wireless LAN access point which it hopes will challenge competing products from Cisco, Aruba and Trapeze, has raised $20 million in second round o financing.
Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers led the investment, while prevoius investors Northern Light Venture Capital and Lightspeed Venture Partners participated. Total funding is now $24 million.
The company says that its product removes the need for centralized control, making for more adaptable, flexible wireless networks. It allows various access points to join together in a so-called “hive,” takes over the function as a controller by sharing information between points.
