Nielsen buys Telephia, for mobile phone traffic measurement service

Nielsen Co. has acquired Telephia, a San Francisco provider of research on consumer usage data in the telecom and mobile media markets, for an undisclosed price.

The move is to introduce traffic measurement services to the $350 billion mobile phone sector, and comes three weeks after Nielsen unveiled Nielsen Wireless.

Since 1999, Telephia has raised more than $102 million from investors including AEA Investors, Cedar Grove Investments, Centennial Ventures, the Megunticook Fund, Oak Hill Venture Partners and Prime New Ventures.
