Respectance, a site for people who have died, raises $250,000

An entrepreneur named Todd Wilkinson has launched a social network, Respectance.com, based in San Francisco and Krakow, Poland where people can share their memories of someone who have died.

The company lets people upload photographs and contribute personal reflections, and turns them into a video. It has raised $250,000.

It will announce more funding next month, having secured the backing of a large Dutch VC group, according to the Times of London.

Advertising won’t work for a site like this, so it is charging $1 for each funeral video downloaded.
