Cisco buys IP-based video surveillance company, BroadWare

Updated

Cisco Systems has agreed to buy BroadWare Technologies, a Santa Clara, Calif., provider of IP-based video surveillance software.

The deal amount was undisclosed. (Update: The Mercury News has a story about the nascent trend in the security industry, of convergence of traditional physical security with information-technology security, and Cisco’s recent record of buying security related companies, such as e-mail security start-up IronPort. BroadWare helps businesses “manage the huge amounts of digital video produced when companies use cameras to record what’s happening in office parks or other corporate locations.)

Broadware has raised about $33.85 million in VC funding since 2000, from Dali Hook Partners, Defta Partners, Hitachi, mc3 Ventures, New Vista Capital and Sigma Partners.
