Motorola acquires Modulus, a MPEG-4 video company

Motorola, the No. 2 mobile phone maker, has acquired Modulus Video, a private Sunnyvale, Calif. company for an undisclosed amount.

Modulus Video offers MPEG-4 Advanced Video Coding (AVC) compression systems designed for delivery of high value video content in the internet television, cable, broadcast and satellite markets. Modulus Video partnered with Motorola for more than two years.

This acquisition will complement Motorola’s recent acquisitions of Broadbus, Kreatel, Tut Systems and Netopia, Motorola said.
